GIVING CARPET TILES A SECOND LIFE

Refurbishments

Each year, office refurbishments result in thousands of square metres of flooring being removed, even though much of it is still in good condition. While interiors evolve, many carpet tiles remain highly usable yet still end up as waste.

At Forbo Flooring Systems, we're changing that.

Partnership

Through our partnership with the Salvation Army Trading Company in the UK, we've created a simple way to keep Tessera carpet tiles in use for longer. Instead of being discarded, carpet tiles removed from corporate refurbishment and renovation projects are carefully lifted, palletised and collected by the Salvation Army for redistribution through its network of furniture shops.

The impact goes far beyond reducing waste.

By giving these carpet tiles a new purpose, we're helping provide affordable, high-quality flooring to people and families who need it most. Flooring doesn't just make a room look complete. It provides warmth and insulation, while helping transform a property into a place people are proud to call home.

Since launching the partnership in 2022, we've diverted 95.55 tonnes of Tessera carpet tiles for reuse.

Affordable flooring

The partnership has also highlighted the growing demand for affordable flooring. Through the Salvation Army's furniture shops and collaborations with local councils, more people have been able to access quality flooring that might otherwise have gone to waste.

This initiative demonstrates what a circular economy looks like in practice. By designing products that last and creating pathways for reuse, we can extend the life of valuable materials, reduce waste and deliver positive outcomes for both people and the planet.
